Onda wall sconce
Introducing our debut lighting piece, a ceramic wall sconce inspired by organic brutalism. While the form is intentional and controlled, the surface changes in the kiln through the raku firing process.
Onda is a small-run item that we manufacture here in Florida. Inspired by the iconic example of tropical organic brutalism, Teatro Popular in Niterói, designed by Oscar Niemeyer, the lamp's shape inherits the principles of organic architecure, following the same contrast Niemeyer explored: soft curves formed in solid structure. While the form is intentional, the surface is shaped by the unpredictable nature of the raku firing process. Glazes crack, trap smoke, and shift to metallic tones depending on how much oxygen is cut off during reduction.w

What we like about raku is how analog it is — we look through a small window and watch the glaze bubble, melt, and start to shine. Ceramics are hot and heavy. The smoke gets into our eyes and noses. It makes us feel focused in the moment like never before, with a strong sense of presence. This is something that’s often missing in our increasingly digital lives; making physical pieces brings that connection back for us.
